FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who owns the Fairgrounds?
The Oldham County Fairgrounds are owned by Oldham County Fair Association (the Fair Board).

How much are the Fair Board members or workers paid?
The Fair Board is a completely volunteer organization. There are no paid members of the Oldham County Fair Association.

Where does funding come from to run the Fair and events?
Day-to-day funding comes primarily from the proceeds of the Fair and events. We also receive some private donations and sponsorships for Fair expenses such as contest prize money, trophies, ribbons, etc. Most of the events, such as motor sports (Demo Derby, Tractor Pull, Motocross, etc), are subcontracted to organizations that are in the business of putting on such events. During the annual Fair in July, the carnival is subcontracted. Fair proceeds come from the gate fee, concession profits, vendor space fees and a percent of vendor sales. It’s not unusual to barely break even (or worse) on these events. On rare occasions, the Fair has received grants for emergency repairs or improvements of the Fairgrounds but this is not common.

Who maintains the Fair Grounds?
Fair Board members, community volunteers, Correctional System Community Service Program labor, and hired contractors when needed.

Who decides what events are put on by the Fair?
The Fair Board makes these decisions. If there is a good turn out, it is considered a vote for continuing the event. If not, something else may be tried next time. If you wish to influence this process, please attend a Fair Board Meeting (4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M.) or write us (see Contact Us page). In addition, the Fair Board is circulating a Survey (see Event Documents page) to help shape the future of the Fair. We want your opinion!

How can I help the Fair?
Start by contacting us or attending a Board Meeting and see where you think you would fit in – The Fair Board would be delighted to get more help from the community for everything from planning and helping with events to facility maintenance, project management and fundraising.

How can I donate to the Fair?
The Fair has a new 501(C)3 non-profit branch called Friends of the Oldham County Fair. The charter of this organization is to raise funds for the Oldham County Fair Association. Cash or property Donations can be made to this organization to obtain a Tax Deductible Receipt. Checks should be made out to: “Friends of the Oldham County Fair”.
